Five delicious ways to improve a cheese toastie
The days when a cheese toastie consisted of merely two thin slices of supermarket bread with a slab of cheese have long since passed. To elevate the flavor, consider one of our enticing creations below:
Sourdough
Melt butter in a pan and fry slices of sourdough. Spread both slices with mayonnaise and a touch of mustard. On one slice, layer sauerkraut, grated Parmesan, cheddar, roasted tomato, and crispy beef bacon. Assemble the sandwich and fry until thoroughly hot and golden
Greasy Spoon
Fry slices of white bloomer in foaming butter. Add grilled sausages, warm baked beans, a slice of red Leicester, and a slice of mature cheddar to one slice of bread. Place the other slice on top and fry both sides until melted, golden, and oozing.
The Nacho
Place sourdough bread in a pan with foaming butter. Spread one slice with chilli jam, then sprinkle with grated Monterey Jack and cheddar, along with chopped pickled jalapeños. Sandwich the other slice on and fry until both sides are golden and the cheese has melted.
Green Pesto
Spread pesto on two sourdough slices fried in butter. Add mozzarella, Gruyère, and sundried tomatoes to one slice. Assemble the sandwich and fry until the cheese melts and both sides are golden. Enjoy, pesto aficionados.
The BBQ
Spread barbecue sauce on sourdough slices and fry the other side in butter. Top one slice with caramelised onions, American cheese, and Gruyère. Sandwich the second slice on top and fry until the cheese has melted and the toastie is golden.
